Bonnaroo 2013

Thursday, June 13 - Sunday, June 16 in Manchester, Tennessee

Bonnaroo is the best/worst experience that a human being can have.

The worst parts are mostly physical. This year’s weather was in the upper 80’s, which meant no matter how long you stayed up the previous night, you were awake around 8am, aka the time the tent turns into a sauna. It usually rains at least once, which turns areas around the campsite into massive, shoe-consuming mud pits. Waiting for a band on the What and Which stages during the day can make a person feel as if they are literally being cooked in the sun. Also, getting a good view in the tents means getting closer to strangers than you would ever be in a New York subway during rush hour. You will sweat like never before, and I have come to the conclusion that taking a shower is mostly for the reminder of what clean feels like.view more

Youth Lagoon - Wondrous Bughouse (Fat Possum)

We’ve been running on the assumption that “Youth Lagoon” was just an arbitrary title Trevor Powers chose as a vessel for his sleepy-eyed musical endeavors. Could be we’re wrong. Maybe the Boise twentysomething has really discovered that fabled spring sought after by misguided conquistadores and graying adventurers since the days when atlases were mostly blank white space with funny stylized drawings by old guys taking old-fashioned Simple Prom Dresses psychedelics. Chances are he hasn't, but I know he dreams about it. For him, though, it’s not the thrill of the unknown that drives him to seek what probably won’t ever be found. Eternal life doesn’t mean eternal possibility, it means eternal lounging, wading waist deep into the warm, still water of the lagoon, knowing he’ll forever be content watching the ripples spread when he moves.view more
